Abstract
This paper presents a number of simple measures of spoken language and
spoken interaction which are based on a standard transcription format and a
few simple additions to generally available word processing mechanisms. The
measures are divided into (i) volume measures which give the number of
words, utterances or other units per recording, speaker or subsection of
recording, (ii) density measures which are derived from volume measures to
neutralize size and (iii) measures which require minimal coding or a
combination of simpler measures. In addition, we discuss ways of
visualizing the highly complex data set these measures yield - concerning
e.g. dynamics and multidimensional relations.
